Spot on Ken!
I recall my first month in my masters in social work internship at the Minnesota AIDS project. I attended more funerals in 30 days than most people attend in a lifetime. (We were just one year into the pandemic AIDS blossomed into.)
One of my first assignments was to create a support group for bug-chasers. Talk about an eye-opener for all involved. My group design dramatically changed lives. Simply put — I suggested bug-chasers become active care-givers of AIDS clients who are no longer able to care for themselves. I suggested they get to know what’s in store for THEM should they commit to purposefully expose themselves to contract AIDS.
Today I find myself sick with the slick advertising for PrEp, et. al. Science has masked the effects of AIDS. Just pop a pill and don’t worry about it — right?
WRONG!
Bowing in gratitude for your wit and wisdom.
