One of the more fascinating experiences of completing my masters in social work as to be invited to participate on the MSW accreditation committee. What an eye opener to gate-keeping that experience was. So many rules with so many quantitative hurdles that had little to do with qualitative results.

Yes, we have "X" enrollees who complete "X" credits within "X" amount of time and "X" GPA's. Check. Yes, we have "X" faculty with "X" degrees who've published "X" times.

No where did the accreditation process account for "X" students who successfully gained employment using their degree.

That experience inspired me to open an un-accredited online university. I noticed too many peers had little training in what I was taught to know as basic common-sense. We started with classes to explore a complex concept known as a sense of worth.

Over the decades at least ONE person in each class says something along the lines of "If I had taken this course before I did my undergrad / grad work, I'd have been a much better student."

What students learn in our classes - easily transfers to any higher-education endeavor in the form of being a more confident, engage consumer of academic offerings.

Every single displaced Professor of a closed college or University worth their salt has the potential to become a self-employed mentor. I know this based on first-hand mentoring of 100's of formerly tenured souls who have a passion to teach in balance with learning.

Displaced teachers who teach to just earn a paycheck - punch a clock. Collect a check? Time to discover your calling.
